Arc spray and wire flame spray both deposit metal onto a prepared surface, but they use different heat sources and equipment. The right choice starts with the coating material, component geometry and available utilitiesโ€”not the gun price alone.

How the two processes differ

A twin-wire arc system melts two electrically conductive wires with an electric arc. Compressed air carries the molten material towards the workpiece. A wire flame spray gun feeds a single wire into an oxygen-and-fuel flame, then uses compressed air to atomize the molten tip. Neither process is the same as welding the component together.

Match the process to the job

For broad steel surfaces requiring zinc or aluminium corrosion protection, compare arc equipment against the required production rate, access and coating specification. For mixed repair work, consider how a 12M or 14M wire flame spray gun fits the material range and handling requirements. Both approaches require suitable surface preparation and an approved coating procedure. A process name alone does not establish bond strength or service life.

Compare the complete installation

An arc quotation should identify the power source, wire drive, gun, cables, air requirements and compatible wire sizes. A flame-spray quotation should identify the gun configuration, approved fuel, gas controls, hoses and wire-feed arrangement. For either system, include extraction, blasting, masking, component handling and inspection in the project scope.

Information to send with an enquiry

  • Base material, component dimensions and photographs.

  • Service conditions: corrosion, wear, temperature or dimensional restoration.

  • Requested coating material, thickness and finished dimensions.

  • Daily workload, available electricity, compressed air and approved gases.

Balaji Udyog manufactures thermal spray equipment in Jodhpur, India. Compare our arc spray systems and wire flame spray guns, or send your application details for equipment selection.

Common question: Can the same wire be used in both processes? Only when its material, diameter and feed compatibility are approved for the specific gun and coating procedure. Check the equipment manual and material specification before selecting consumables.
